£17m Man United target compared to Ngolo Kante admits he could leave this summer

Sometimes, opportunities arise that just feel too good to miss. Manchester United want at least one new midfielder this summer, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Sofyan Amrabat expected to depart.

What if we told you that a player with Amrabat’s poise and Casemiro’s physicality were up for grabs for an alleged £17 million, with a 2025 contract expiration? a 25-year-old who has already earned 17 caps.

At six feet one inch, the athlete has the physicality needed for the Premier League and the technical ability to work within a possession-based strategy. Manchester United has sorely missed the dynamism, ground-covering ability, and ball-carrying power during a campaign in which their formation has resembled a doughnut with a large hole in the middle.

Manchester United could sign midfield star for £17m

Normally, we would inform you that there is a catch at this point. because it seems too good to be true.

However, there isn’t really anything wrong with investing £17 million to sign Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and bring him to Old Trafford.

Not with CEO Thiago Scuro of the Ligue 1 team acknowledging that Les Monegasques are “open to selling” because of Fofana’s contract circumstances. Not when the man himself declared in the open that he was looking for a new challenge.

“My future? I have spoken about it with the hierarchy. (What I want) isn’t a secret,” Fofana, who has been included in France’s Euro 2024 squad, tells Get France Football News. “We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage (looking for a club).”

“If it (a move) doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay.

“We were in agreement that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.”

Fofana may not be a true ‘master’ of any position. But what he is, is an all-action, all-rounder. The sort of tenacious, tough-tackling powerhouse who could be the key to getting even more out of Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

“Youssouf Fofana is an attacking midfielder, box to box I would say. (He has) work-rate,” former France defender Olivier Bernard tells the BBC.

“We compare him to N’Golo Kante at times because he does defend hard and he always wants to win the ball.”

The next N’Golo Kante

WhoScored reports that Fofana averages more interceptions per game than any other midfielder for Man United right now. In the 2023–24 Ligue 1 season, he added four goals and four assists, demonstrating his capacity to move forward and contribute significantly in the closing third, much like Casemiro when he is at the top of his game.

Before Amrabat arrived, Man United reportedly had a loan offer turned down by Monaco last summer, according to Romano. A year later, with Casemiro, Eriksen, and Amrabat probably heading our way and United clamouring for a player with his presence and strength in the midfield, it would seem a bit silly to ignore Monaco’s advances once more.

“Youssouf Fofana’s exit in the summer window is almost guaranteed,” Romano wrote on X on Thursday. “He’s not even negotiating a new deal at AS Monaco. There’s interest from England, Italy and not only (those leagues).

“One to watch in the upcoming weeks.”
