The 29-year-old left after declining a lucrative two-year contract extension for €7.5 million (£6.3 million/$8.1 million) a year plus bonuses. Rabiot paused to consider his past before plunging into the present.

He posted an emotional farewell to the Juventus community on Instagram, expressing his gratitude.

“After five seasons at Juventus, five years in Turin, I want to say goodbye and thank you,” he wrote.

“All of you who have been there for me. The club and all its staff. And you fans, always close and very affectionate! Thanks for everything @juventus. Goodbye and good luck.”

Rabiot has long harboured ambitions to play in the Premier League, and it appears that United are leading the charge to secure his signature.

According to Caught Offside, United have engaged in talks with Rabiot and his mother, who also serves as his agent.

Although other top clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Galatasaray have expressed interest, the Red Devils are reportedly in a favourable position to get him on board as they are prepared to offer him a salary in the range of €8-9 million (£6.75m-£7.59m/$8.67m-$9.76m) per year, along with a signing bonus.

During his five-year stint at Juventus, Rabiot has won one Scudetto, two Coppa Italia crowns and one Supercoppa Italiana. He made 212 appearances with the Bianconeri and managed to score 22 goals and provide 15 assists.
