Harry Amass shares what Man United told him when he signed, he can follow in the footsteps of Kobbie Mainoo

Harry Amass impressed as Manchester United beat Real Betis 3-2 in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Red Devils have stepped up their preparation in the United States with just 10 days remaining until the season opens with a Community Shield clash against Manchester City.

Injuries to Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund put a dampener on United’s pre-season tour, but a shining light for Erik ten Hag has been the impressive performances from academy stars.

United plan to give Toby Collyer his debut early into the 2024-25 campaign after he in particular has impressed in America.

But another standout has been Harry Amass, who has starred at left-back with Luke Shaw still on his summer break after Euro 2024.

The 17-year-old has played in all four friendly matches this summer and Amass’ performances have wowed the United fanbase.

Harry Amass reveals what was said when he signed for Man United

Amass was given 60 minutes of action against Real Betis before he was replaced with Sam Murray.

With Tyrell Malacia not playing a part in the summer tour, the teenager has put himself in a great position to challenge Shaw for the starting spot at left-back.

Speaking after the full-time whistle on Thursday morning, Amass revealed that a pathway to the first team was key to his move to United in 2023.

Via The United Stand, Amass said “When I joined here, one of the main things was a pathway into the first-team. United showed me that straight away.

“We’ve seen the likes of Kobbie [Mainoo] playing last year in the academy and now he’s in a Euro final.

“Then you have Garna [Garnacho] who has come in as a young player at 17 and making his debut. Stuff like that gets you going and proves there is a pathway.

“I think if you’re good enough, age doesn’t matter.”

First-team role is inevitable for Harry Amass
