HERE WE GO: Man united complete the signing of £50m defender after Leny Yoro injury set back, player to undergo medical tomorrow – announcement tomorrow morning

They have been monitoring Matthijs de Ligt for some time now but also have other options in mind.

One name that the Red Devils could look at, as per yesterday’s version of Corriere dello Sport (news image provided below) is Juventus defender, Gleison Bremer.

The Italian publication has revealed that Man Utd can ‘tempt’ the Brazilian defender with a huge offer in the coming days.

Premier League rivals Liverpool are also monitoring a move for Bremer, having been largely inactive in the transfer market so far.

We covered a story back in May revealing that Manchester United were ‘most interested’ in the possibility of signing Gleison Bremer from Juventus. However, the club seems to have moved on to the likes of Yoro and De Ligt.

CorSport claim that the Juventus defender has a release clause worth around £55.6million (66 million euros) in his contract with the Old Lady which will expire in ten days, on August 10.

The bigger issue for Juventus is likely to be the daunting task of replacing Bremer in the backline. The 27-year-old Brazilian has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Serie A in recent seasons and replacing him will be a monumental task.

If Man Utd indeed sign Bremer, it will likely spell the end for De Ligt’s desire to come to Old Trafford. However, a high-profile addition is required in central defense as one injury forces Erik ten Hag to go back to Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof.

Bremer would fit the style of play Ten Hag used with Man Utd. He is a no-nonsense defender and pairing him with Lisandro Martinez could fortify the Red Devils’ backline.

However, it is highly unlikely for Juventus to actively look to sell a player who can be a cornerstone in their new project. It remains to be seen if Dan Ashworth & co. are willing to trigger Bremer’s the £55.6million release clause to make this deal happen.
