Man Utd have been linked with a number of players this transfer window. There has been a lot of noise surrounding the club but very few have translated into signings. Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro have been the only arrivals this summer.
There are so many areas that the Red Devils need to improve in to build a competitive squad. However, all reinforcements are not possible in the same transfer window and the change can only happen with time.
What the club can avoid doing though is to sign another player for a position they are already well stacked in. Why would Man Utd want to sign Ivan Toney after already having Rasmus Hojlund and Zirzkee in the squad?
Well, apparently they do. As per Football Insider, Man Utd have finally decided to bid for the Brentford striker after seeing his valuation drop to £50m.
The same football publication reported last month that the Bees reduced his valuation from £90m to £60m.
Toney is not a bad player to have in the squad. However, if Man Utd wanted to sign him, they should have done so before acquiring Zirkzee. Well, it’s not like Erik ten Hag is suddenly going to change into Simone Inzaghi and play with a two-striker formation.
Man Utd are not in a position like Man City who are in a well-advanced stage in their project. The Red Devils need to pick and choose their options and right now, singing another central defender and a defensive midfielder should be a priority.
Toney is not someone Man Utd must sign this summer but we don’t make the decisions. Let’s see what Dan Ashworth & co. think about the same.
