Erik ten Hag on transfers
Erik ten Hag spoke to media at his press conference ahead of the City fixture. And along with providing an update on player fitness, he expressed his view on player transfers.
Ten Hag was pretty positive, expressing his view that United are firmly in the mix, and are simply biding their time to sign the right players, at the right prices.
He said, confidently, via club media: “When we have news, we will announce it. You see the market is quite quiet still but we have done our business, we have done two deals.
“It is about timings and it is about the market options and [ensuring] in the right moment we do the right things.
“I don’t go into details where we are now with recruitment and what we are working on. We know what we are doing and I think we are in a good position with the squad.
“For you, just wait, be patient and in the right moment, we will tell you.”
Ten Hag would not be drawn on player names, despite being asked specifically about Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
United urged to sign another striker
One area where it is unclear if United will sign another player is up front. Rasmus Hojlund’s injury has highlighted a lack of options.
Earlier this week Don Hutchison told ESPN FC that he was certain United need to add another goalscorer.
He said, of Hojlund: “The kid needs time. I was chatting to Andy Cole, when Andy Cole when into Man United, he said I had Mark Hughes to learn from, then he had Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke, all these guys, if Andy Cole wasn’t fit or scoring goals there was competition for places.
“He [Hojlund] needs help. If I’m Man United and I’m in their scouting department, if I’m Ten Hag, ‘find me a number nine’. Go and find me one, I need one.
“Get a recognised number nine.”
