At this point, it’s getting fairly tiresome to hear Man Utd linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
It’s getting even more tiresome than the time when Real Madrid were linked with a move for Kylian Mbappe.
The more frustrating part of this transfer is that Man Utd don’t need De Jong anymore. The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo has effectively shut out the Red Devils’ need for the Dutchman.
What they need is a Casemiro alternative.
Despite this, it hasn’t stopped Dan Ashworth & co. from still trying to sign the 27-year-old Dutchman.
As per Spanish outlet, Nacional, Man Utd have made a £47m bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer but sporting director, Deco, has decided to turn the offer down and wants around £68m.
This offer comes up at a time when Frenkie is suffering a mysterious injury. The Dutch superstar is struggling with an ankle issue that has kept him out for quite some time now and doesn’t look any close to retuning.
Even people inside Barcelona don’t seem to know what is going on with Frenkie. Hansi Flick is kicking off a new era at the Catalan club and the German coach has still not been given the opportunity to use the Dutchman in his plans.
At 27, Frenkie is at an age where he is entering what is considered the prime years of his career. However, time and again, he has reiterated his desire to stay at Barcelona and even assembling the OG Erik ten Hag Ajax squad should tempt De Jong to move to Old Trafford.
It’s time Man Utd move on from this transfer saga, once and for all. They need to focus on other targets. De Jong is a great talent but he isn’t destined to end up at Old Trafford. Let’s wait and see how it goes.
