United have “decided against” signing €35 million star, will not now fill position – The Athletic

Well, it’s not quite official, but The Athletic are reporting it, so it feels almost certain unless there is another twist in the tale.

United opted to secure a right back this summer to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has joined West Ham. In landing Noussair Mazraoui, they have a player like Diogo Dalot who can play both sides.

The Athletic say that United are “said to have decided against pursuing a left-back, ruling out a move for Fenerbahce’s Ferdi Kadioglu, despite reports in Turkey.

Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot offer options in that position, and Erik ten Hag said Luke Shaw’s injury would not keep him out for too long,” the outlet says.

Kadioglu’s name and others such as Rennes’ Adrien Truffert, and free agents Marcos Alonso and Mario Hermoso have all been linked persistently with an Old Trafford switch this summer.

Ten Hag may be right that Shaw’s injury will not keep him out for long, but there is a growing perception that the England man’s body keeps failing him and that he can no longer be counted upon to provide an injury-free run at the top level.
