Alejandro Garnacho speaks out on Man Utd sacking Erik ten Hag as player releases official statement

Alejandro Garnacho has reacted to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United sacking with an Instagram post.

Garnacho, 20, was heavily criticised for his wasteful performance in United’s 2-1 defeat against West Ham on Sunday – which proved to be Ten Hag’s final game.

There have been mixed reactions to the news from some of the United’s former players. David de Geaaimed a cheeky dig at his former manager, while Rio Ferdinand thanked the 54-year-old for his efforts at the club.

The Argentine took to Instagram posting a photograph of the pair enjoying a happy moment together with smiles on their faces, with the caption reading: “Thank you for everything, boss.

“I will always be grateful to you for giving me the opportunity and the confidence to play for this club.

“It hasn’t gone as well as we wanted, but I will remember the good times we had together and I wish you all the best in the future.

“Thank you very much Erik.”

The Dutchman handed the Madrid-born winger his senior debut for United on 27 October 2022 in a 3–0 win over Moldovan team Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Europa League.

Earlier this season, Ten Hag even backed the player to become “world-class”.

“He [Alejandro Garnacho] has high potential, 100 per cent,” he said in August 2024.

“He showed last season he can contribute, he can be a starting XI player.

“But to make the jump to become a world-class player, a long way to go and it starts with very hard work.

“That brought him where he is now and that will bring him to that world-class player because – and that is where I agree – he has the potential (to become).”
