Ruben Amorim was applauded by Sporting CP supporters as he took to the touchline just hours after being confirmed as Manchester United’s new head coach.
The 39-year-old will become the sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club when he begins his role at Old Trafford on November 11.
But after his appointment was made official at noon on Friday, Amorim still had three games to oversee with the Lisbon outfit before the international break later this month.
The first of those came on Friday night as Sporting CP welcomed Estrela da Amadora to the Estadio Jose Alvalade, hoping to maintain their 100% start to the Liga Portugal season.
