Nani Urges Manchester United to Support New Manager Ruben Amorim with Patience and Quality Signings
Manchester United legend Nani has advised his former club to provide new manager Ruben Amorim with “patience” and “top-quality players” as he takes on his first role outside of Portugal. Amorim, who achieved notable success with Sporting CP, including a Liga Portugal title in his debut season, is set to step in after the November international break as Erik ten Hag’s successor.
Nani, who briefly played alongside Amorim for the Portuguese national team, believes his former teammate has the skills to thrive at Old Trafford. “He’s done a fantastic job at Sporting,” Nani said, adding that with time and the right squad, Amorim can succeed at “one of the best clubs in the world.”
While United invested heavily under Ten Hag, spending around £600 million on 21 players and securing both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, the team still fell to a disappointing eighth-place finish last season. Amorim, however, has already ruled out bringing in current Sporting players, humorously noting that striker Viktor Gyokeres “costs €100 million (£84m), so I won’t be bringing any Sporting player in January.”
