Angel Gomes is reportedly keen to return to the Premier League ahead of next season.
The former Manchester United midfielder has flourished at Lille and has impressed while playing for England over the last couple of months, which has increased speculation over his future. Gomes has less than eight months to run on his contract and could depart the Ligue 1 side at the end of the campaign.
And now, interested parties have been given a boost should they want to sign him. According to GiveMeSport, Gomes is eager to complete a switch back to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season. Gomes last made a top-flight in England appearance back in January 2020, coming off the bench for United against Norwich.
Tottenham have emerged as the favourites for his signature as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his midfield. It’s reported that Spurs are ‘continuing to keep tabs’ on Gomes and could make a move despite splashing out £43million combined on Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in the summer transfer window.
As well as Tottenham, United and Aston Villa are known to be admirers, while Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also monitoring his situation. There could be significant competition for his signature considering that Gomes would be available for free, though his wage demands may impact which club are in for him.
Speaking on his future last month, Gomes refused to rule out a shock return to United. He told The Times: “There’ll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it’d be difficult to say no.”
However, he was quick to add: “As amazing as it would be, after finding happiness abroad, I know [playing in the Premier League] is not the be-all and end-all.”
