“Here’s the reason I will never work with him…He has to go”: Ruben Amorim has reveal the real reason he refused to work with Ruud van Nistelrooy

Manchester United have issued a statement on Ruud van Nistelrooy, one of four coaches to leave the club following Ruben Amorim’s arrival: “Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach.

“Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.

“Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed and we wish them all well for the future.”

Van Nistelrooy did an excellent job during his interim spell at the club, helping the club navigate the immediate aftermath of Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

Now let us explain why letting him leave is the right call…

Let Ruben Amorim build his own team

Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim, and must give the new head coach the creative freedom to shape his backroom team as he sees fit.

If you gave Amorim a blank piece of paper and asked him to write down his ideal coaching staff, he would not pick Van Nistelrooy, he would bring in his own men – so why force the former interim boss on him?

Amorim is bringing in a full team of staff from Sporting, who have been a key part of his success. This was part of the hold-up in negotiations with the Portuguese club.

Each of these individuals will have a set task and specific brief. Adding Van Nistelrooy into the mix would have duplicated one of his staff members’ jobs, and complicated the set up.

There is also no point creating an additional role just for Van Nistelrooy either. This would make no sense financially or for the harmony behind the scenes, he would have felt increasingly like a spare-part.

Demoting him to become just the ‘striker coach’ would not have worked either. He has proven his capability to be far more.
