Ruud van Nistelrooy confirms next Man Utd step ahead of Ruben Amorim’s arrival

Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed his next Manchester United step ahead of Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Van Nistelrooy has been in temporary charge of Man United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag, who was relieved of his duties last month.

He has led the club to three victories in his four games in charge as interim boss

The latest victory came on Sunday as the Red Devils beat Leicester City 3-0 in a Premier League fixture.

Whether Van Nistelrooy stays on at Man United as an assistant coach remains to seen as Amorim is set to bring his own coaching staff with him to Old Trafford.

Speaking after giving an emotional goodbye to the Stretford End, the legendary Dutchman said he expects to hear from the board about his future imminently.

“I really enjoyed it, it’s been a short but amazing period. We are in an uncertain position, but we tried to do our jobs and help the club which is important,” he told BBC Sport.

“There are a lot of feelings there, the way the fans supported me and the team always in difficult moments it was a special moment. To close down this block of games with good results and a good connection I can’t thank them enough. We will learn what the further plan is now.”

During his post-match press conference, he added: “(The club hierarchy) said, ‘okay, it’s going to be four [games], it’s going to be announced a new head coach’ etc, etc. So, for me, it is important to have that clarity and I appreciated that. In the end, the most important thing is this football club, and I’m here to support that in my role.
