UK snow forecast: Ipswich vs Manchester United postponement latest

The United Kingdom has been hit with wintery weather including snow and ice this week as temperatures dropped.

Across the north of England, schools were closed earlier this week as freezing temperatures led to hazardous conditions on the roads. Of course, when the weather turns cold, sporting fixtures up and down the UK suddenly go into doubt.

Premier League stadiums these days are equipped with undersoil heating and state-of-the-art frost covers which prevent pitches from freezing when the temperatures drop. However, while the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United do not have to worry about their pitches being up to scratch, there is concern about the surrounding areas.

Matches have been called off in the past should authorities believe that roads and footpaths outside the stadium are too treacherous for supporters to attend. As such all eyes are on the weather forecasts to see if either Manchester club will be facing another football free weekend.

City are first up this weekend with their game taking place at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening. According to the Met Office, today is expected to be a cold one in Manchester with temperatures reaching a maximum of 5C.
