Despite a brilliant start which saw Amad Diallo set up Marcus Rashford for a brilliant opener, United slipped into old habits as Ipswich came into the game more and more.
Indeed, come the final whistle, it was Ipswich who’d looked the team more likely to get the win to leave Amorim with plenty to think about.
Amorim himself was already getting frustrated with the likes of Casemiro, and the new boss will know he has his hands full.
And according to Teddy Sheringham, Amorim has simply got to get stuck into the players and change the mindset of the club.
Teddy Sheringham tells Ruben Amorim what to do at Man United after Ipswich draw
Speaking for Premier League Productions about the opening game of the Amorim era, former United striker Sheringham dug out certain players and insisted that the new boss has got to get into the minds of the players.
“I think he’s got to get into their minds about what it takes to play for Manchester United,” Sheringham said.
“Even when you go away to places like Ipswich, you’re expected to show the desire to try and win the game right until the last minute, even if it’s not going to go your way.
“I think there were people there happy to get a draw.”
Same old same old for Manchester United
This cannot be blamed on Amorim, who has had just days to work with a group of players who are clearly either not good enough, or don’t want it enough.
United fans will have seen this very much like the days of Erik ten Hag as United looked open to counter attacks constantly and never looked like scoring much either.
Amorim will have to root out the issues at squad level and hope that INEOS then back him to improve things.
If not, then United might be in for much of the same under Amorim and come 18 months down the line, we’ll be having the same old conversations.
