Portuguese media make their feelings clear on Man Utd after Ruben Amorim held to draw in first match

Portuguese media have had their say on Ruben Amorim following his first game in charge of new club Manchester United.

After an exciting 3-2 match between Liverpool and Southampton on Sunday, all all eyes turned to the Portman Road Stadium as Ipswich Town welcomed Amorim to England for his first game as United manager.

Despite an early goal from Marcus RashfordUnited allowed the hosts back into the game as Omari Hutchinson scored an equaliser that set the final scoreline as 1-1.

And in the wake of the match, members of the Portuguese media have spoken out about former Sporting manager Amorim’s first match in charge of United.

Portuguese outlet Record was not impressed with what they say from Amorim’s side on Sunday suggesting that, while two players enjoyed standout performances, Amorim has a lot that he needs to improve at United.

Their report stated: “The goal after just 2 minutes suggested a great performance from Manchester United in Ruben Amorim’s debut, but it was short-lived.

“Rashford scored after a great play by Diallo, but the Red Devils, in short, put in a somewhat lacklustre performance against an Ipswich side that was better at various points in the game.

“Onana shone on two occasions in the United goal and Bruno Fernandes was the most clear-cut, but Amorim’s team struggled to connect the game and lacked intensity.

“Ultimately, the Portuguese coach has a lot of work ahead of him.”

Sports newspaper A Bola agreed with Record’s assessment and were highly critical of United’s performance, criticising their lack of speed and unity.
