What Ruben Amorim does differently to Erik ten Hag during Manchester United vs Everton Match

The Dutchman left the Portuguese tactician with a weak squad and a side lacking confidence, as they languished 14th in the Premier League at the time of his sacking.

Little seemed to have changed in the 39-year-old’s managerial debut in the Premier League as Manchester United struggled in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich, but ahead of his first Premier League match at Old Trafford, BBC Sport reporter Shamoon Hafez noticed Ruben Amorim do something vastly different to Erik ten Hag.

Under Ten Hag, the Red Devils never seemed to do anything too advanced in their warm-up before matches.

It was often more akin to preparations seen in Sunday League football – in truth – with the players lining up to smash shots at Andre Onana.

Now, however, Amorim has taken the warm-up to another level.

Reporting from Old Trafford, Hafez wrote: “There’s a stark contrast in the warm-ups deployed by Ruben Amorim and former boss Erik ten Hag. You often saw the Manchester United players laying the ball off and taking pot shots at goalkeeper Andre Onana.

“The Red Devils number one has not had a single ball fired at him so far. The starting line-up are set up to work in different patterns, defenders in bibs looking to repel the midfielders and attackers.”

Marcus Rashford – who Owen Hargreaves now expects to shine – certainly seems to be enjoying life under Amorim so far, netting his second goal in two Premier League outings under the man from Lisbon to put Manchester United ahead against Everton before Joshua Zirkzee doubled the lead.

The England international then scored again to make it 3-0 just seconds after the interval, before Zirkzee made it 4-0.
