Gary O’Neil has been sacked as Wolves manager, with a clear favourite already installed to replace him.
The Englishman departs Molineux with Wolves in 19th position in the Premier League after their 2-1 defeat to Ipswich on Saturday.
Reports claimed that the club’s board still backed O’Neil after Monday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham, but another loss in front of their own fans appears to have forced a decision to be made.
He is the third Premier League manager to be sacked this season after Erik ten Hag and Steve Cooper left Manchester United and Leicester City respectively.
The next appointment will be crucial for Wolves’ ownership, who have come under increasing fan pressure for their decisions to allow key players to leave the club while not adequately replacing them.
