Amorim has so much to do with the current squad that one wonders just how long it will take for him to actually make meaningful change without just papering over the existing cracks, like how his predecessors have.
For a change to happen, he will have to be ruthless and judging by his initial few weeks, he seems unafraid to take brave calls.
Apart from a club clear-out, the Portuguese coach will also have to work towards bringing in players of his choice.
Two stars eager to sign for Manchester United
Now, as per today’s edition of iNews, there are two players who are very keen on joining Man Utd and prepared to make the move – Nuno Mendes of PSG and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP.
The left wing-back role is a hugely problematic area in the Man Utd squad with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia suffering from incessant injury issues. The duo have struggled to stay fit for a significant period of time for some years now.
Nuno Mendes is the Amorim’s ‘top pick’ as he would be an ideal choice for the role and is valued at around £58m.
The other player the former Lions manager wants to sign, rather unsurprisingly, is Viktor Gyokeres, from his former club who could be available for around £60m.
The Swedish international is the leading goal-scorer in Portugal and would be an upgrade over the likes of Hojlund and Zirkzee.
Securing both Nuno Mendes and Gyokeres would be excellent piece of business from Man Utd but for sure, they will have to make quite a few significant sales to spend around £118million for them.
During his time at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag primarily signed players that he had managed before.
