The teenager was named in a matchday squad for the first time in December.

He has trained with the senior squad and earned praise from Amorim.

The head coach admitted that Kukonki has ‘impressed him a lot’ and is ‘ready’ to handle the demands of the Premier League.

Standing tall at 6’5″, the young defender has been proving his mettle at the youth level.

Being a left-footer, his passing adds a unique dimension to his play.

He is a highly technical defender with a quick recovery pace and a solid aerial presence.

United are in action four times in the next ten days.

It will be important for the Portuguese head coach to keep everyone fresh and injury-free.

Amorim worked extensively with young players during his time at Sporting CP.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo made big strides under manager Erik ten Hag.

Kukonki must similarly aim to leave a mark in Amorim’s tenure.

United are currently 15th in the league, but a victory today will propel them to 12th.
