Paul Scholes immediately deletes Instagram post about major Ruben Amorim decision which has divided the Man Utd fanbase

Paul Scholes Deletes Instagram Post About Ruben Amorim After FA Cup Win Over Leicester

After Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, Paul Scholes quickly deleted an Instagram post that commented on manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical decisions during the match.

The game at Old Trafford wasn’t one for the highlight reels in terms of quality, but United managed to edge past Leicester with Harry Maguire’s header in stoppage time—though it was clear the defender was offside when the ball was played in. Despite the controversial finish, the win took United into the next round, even though they were once again forced to fight back after going behind at home.

Bobby Decordova-Reid gave Leicester the lead in the first half, but Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to equalize in the 60th minute, bringing the hosts back into the game. Amidst the action, United also saw the debut of new signing Patrick Dorgu, who lined up at right wing-back but was substituted at halftime after a less-than-ideal performance.

One of Amorim’s notable tactical decisions during the match was to invert the wing-backs, with Dorgu and Diogo Dalot playing on the sides that matched their ‘weaker’ feet. This move raised eyebrows and had fans and pundits talking, with Scholes being among those to comment.

Scholes, known for his keen football insight, took to Instagram in the aftermath of the match, writing in an Instagram story: “Inverted wing-backs… you saw it at OT first…” This was a quick observation on Amorim’s tactical setup. However, the post was deleted shortly after, suggesting Scholes may have second thoughts or preferred to avoid any potential backlash or controversy related to his comments.

The decision to invert the wing-backs was a curious one, with some fans and analysts questioning the effectiveness of the setup. While Dorgu’s debut may not have been spectacular, the system did provide a spark for United’s comeback, as Zirkzee‘s goal showed.

Amorim’s approach will likely continue to be scrutinized as he settles into his role at Manchester United, but for now, it’s clear that Scholes wasn’t the only one left with thoughts on the tactical choices.
