It says a lot about his application and output that neither Manchester United fans nor Chelsea fans want to end up with Jadon Sancho long-term.
When his move to Stamford Bridge was finalised on deadline day last summer, the Red Devils thought they’d finally offloaded an ultimately substandard £73 million asset once and for all – albeit for much cheaper than they’d hoped.
United inserted an obligation-to-buy clause in Sancho’s loan terms with Chelsea worth around £25m. Should the Blues finish in the top 14 of the Premier League table come May, they would have to fork out the amount and sign the winger permanently. Or so we thought…
Now, Sancho’s continued lacklustre form has seemingly prompted Enzo Maresca and the board to second-guess their decision. Reports circulated this week claiming the club would try their hand at bypassing the obligation – even if it means paying a small fee to waive the term with United.
