Star agree £15.4m terms after talks to sign for Man Utd – Report

Man Utd have been linked with a number of central defenders in recent times. The one signing that they went ahead to pull off was Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille but the young Frenchman has injured himself and will be out for three months.

With Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans all suffering injury issues at various times in the past 12 months, the entire Man Utd defence wears a very injury-prone look to it and seems to crying out for reinforcement.

To alleviate the issues, it looks like Man Utd could turn to a low-cost free-agent Spanish central defender who can help them out. No, it’s not Sergio Ramos. As per El Sevillista journalist Maximo de la Cruz, Man Utd have initiated contacts with the camp of ex-Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso who is currently out of a contract.

Hermoso is a versatile Spaniard who has enjoyed some great games under Diego Simeone. Capable of playing as both a central defender and a left-back, the 29-year-old would be a low-cost option who can do a job at Old Trafford.

The journalist adds that the ex-Atletico star is asking for a €6m per year contract valid for three years to sign for the Red Devils. This would work out to around £15.4m overall for Man Utd should they decide to sign him.

The negotiations are in the initial phases but considering a free agent, things could get wrapped up really quickly. Hermoso is not good enough to be a starter for Man Utd but he would be an excellent bench option for Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch coach will look to go into the new season with as many options in hand (not like Chelsea though) to help compensate for the injury issues and avoid gimmicks like playing Sofyan Amrabat or Victor Lindelof at left-back.
