Team news, automatic offsides, VAR change – New Premier League rules for Man City and Man United

The 2024/25 Premier League season is set to kick off this weekend, with Manchester City and Manchester United both harbouring high hopes for the campaign ahead.

Both clubs have been busy in the transfer market as they aim to bolster their squads. For City, the aim will be to make it an unprecedented five Premier Leaguetitles in a row, while United will be looking to push towards the top four positions with there now being more certainty over the future of Erik ten Hag.

United kick off the season on Friday night when they host Fulham at Old Trafford. The game could see new signings Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee. City have a bit longer to wait until their season starts with Pep Guardiola’s side travelling to take on Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea on Sunday afternoon (5.30pm kick-off).
