Medical booked: Club agrees to sell their best player to Man United as the Reds made greatest summer signing

We covered a story revealing that Noussair Mazraoui’s agents were pushing him towards signing for Man Utd after it emerged that Dumfries is close to extending his Inter Milan contract until 2028. Now, it looks like Frimpong is the next name.

The Bundesliga winner has been linked with the Red Devils for quite some time now. Whilst Diogo Dalot is a very good player and should continue for the club, there are a lot of deficiencies in Wan-Bissaka’s game that often affect Erik ten Hag’s plans.

As per Spanish publication, Fichajes, Man Utd have now been offered the chance to sign Frimpong. The Dutch defender was one of the best players in Europe last season not just in his position but in general but struggled to break into Ronald Koeman’s plans in the Euros 2024.

Frimpong had a release clause in his contract for around £33.8m which expired this month. If any club was to negotiate with Bayer Leverkusen for the player, one can imagine that the German club will demand a slightly higher package.

Of all the names linked with the right-back position for Man Utd, Frimpong is arguably the best one with the highest ceiling. The 23-year-old is excellent going forward and has a mean finish in his locker which we saw multiple times last season.

One must remember though that Frimpong has played some of his best football as a wing-back for Leverkusen in Xabi Alonso’s system. Would he have the defensive acumen to play as right-back in a back four at Man Utd?
