Mason Greenwood gives response to Man Utd exit with goals on Marseille debut

Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood made a stunning debut for Ligue 1 club Marseille, netting twice in a resounding 5-1 victory over Brest.

The 22-year-old ended his ties with the Red Devils this summer after sealing a £26.6million transfer to France. Greenwood spent the previous season on loan at La Liga outfit Getafe, following United’s decision that it would be best for him to continue his career away from Old Trafford.

Officials at Old Trafford felt his departure fulfilled their promise that he should pursue his career elsewhere. Roberto De Zerbi took the reins at Marseille, leaving Brighton and Hove Albion behind, and made an ideal start in the French top division.

Greenwood hit the ground running on his debut, sprinting down the right flank before firing low into the bottom corner just three minutes in. Just past the half-hour mark, the forward confidently converted a penalty to give Marseille a 3-0 lead after Amine Harit was brought down in the box.
