Manchester United fans are calling for one man to leave the club completely following their 2-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux.
Ruben Amorim’s side are now eight points clear of the relegation zone following the defeat, which also saw captain Bruno Fernandes sent off in the second half after receiving two yellow cards.
Seconds after the restart, Wolves thought they had taken the lead through Jorgen Strand Larsen, but the Norwegian striker had his goal chalked off for offside following a VAR check.
But Vitor Pereira’s side did take the lead under 10 minutes later when Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner.
It is the second goal United have conceded directly from a corner in a week, with Son Heung-min doing likewise in Spurs’ 4-3 win over Ruben Amorim‘s side in their Carabao Cup quarter-final.
While Altay Bayindir was the man between the sticks on that occasion, Andre Onana saw the ball loop over his head at Molineux – and the manner of both goals was distinctively similar.
Given the above unwanted statistic, United fans are calling for the club’s set piece coach to leave the club – but there has been some confusion over exactly who that is.
Former manager Erik ten Hag brought in Andreas Georgson from Lillestrom to become United’s new set piece coach in the summer, and he was regularly seen on the touchline during the opening games of the season before the Dutchman was sacked.
But Amorim has since brought in Carlos Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon, with the Portuguese now leading responsibilities for set pieces.
Speaking after United’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal earlier this month, Amorim said: “The thinking is Carlos is responsible for set pieces, different stuff. Andreas is also there to help. That’s it, that’s the reason.”
