Amad Diallo was another bright spark in the game. The Ivorian got the nod over Alejandro Garnacho on the right wing and made a huge mark.
The 22-year-old registered the assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal before the break. This was one of six chances created by the talented winger.
Diogo Dalot and Christian Eriksen were the next highest with two apiece while club captain Bruno Fernandes created a solitary chance.
Aside from his creativity, Amad worked hard defensively as well. He won five duels and three tackles alongside four successful recoveries.
He also completed 90% of his passes at St Mary’s.
The Atalanta graduate capitalised on the opportunity handed by manager Erik ten Hag and in our view, he is undroppable at the present point.
Garnacho scored in stoppage time after coming off the bench to replace Marcus Rashford, but the Argentine is at his best on the left wing.
Diallo deserves to keep his starting berth for the forthcoming league games on current form.
United will be in Carabao Cup action against Barnsley in the third round on Tuesday evening.
