Seven Man Utd legends give verdict on Erik ten Hag sack as he fights for future

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United future remains the subject of debate after more dropped points on Sunday, and plenty of former United stars have had their say.

The 13-time Premier League champions remain some way off another title charge. Sunday’s loss at home to Tottenham left Ten Hag’s team down in 13th, six points adrift of the Champions League spots after just six games.

Ten Hag insists he is not worried about the slump, and has backed his players to turn things around. United face Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a Premier League trip to face fifth-placed Aston Villa away from home.

United’s most recent defeat prompted plenty of reflection, as well as debate from all quarters over the future of the manager. Here, Mirror Football looks at whas some former Old Trafford favourites have said,

Gary Neville

“It was an absolutely disgusting performance in that first half in effort, quality, everything you would want in a football team,” Neville said on Sky Sports after the Spurs defeat. “There will be a lot of questions to answer for that group (of players) and the manager in the next week.

“I’ve been here at Man United enough over the past 10 to 12 years to know that a game and a result like this needs reversing rather quickly. The snowball starts to roll down that hill and it gathers apace. Erik ten Hag has got to stop it at source right now because this is a shocking day, a sobering day.

“I said just before the game that there can be no excuses. A mountain of cash has been spent and invested. The first half was absolutely woeful, as bad as it gets.”
