Man Utd are set to receive a €6 million FFP boost ahead of the summer transfer window.
Before their season is even over, Manchester United is expected to close their first deal of the summer transfer window.
Benfica has formally activated their €6 million permanent purchase option for Alvaro Fernandez, even though he did not play enough games to make the transfer mandatory. After spending time at Granada, Fernandez signed a loan deal with Benfica back in January.
As part of the agreement, the Portuguese team had to buy Fernandez outright if he started half of the team’s games. The 21-year-old did not have to be purchased this summer because he started seven out of a potential 27 games (25.92%).
However, Benfica still wanted to push ahead with the transfer having been encouraged with the progress he has made since joining the club on loan. It is understood Benfica’s option to sign Fernandez permanently was set at €6m (£5.1m) with a potential €3m (£2.6m) in add-ons. United will retain a buyback option and sell-on clause should Benfica sell the Spaniard to another club.
