Manchester United are ready to rival Arsenal for two of their biggest summer transfer targets, with talks reportedly already underway.
United manager Ruben Amorim is expected to ask at the end of the season for more firepower in attack with current striker pair Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling for goals
Hojlund scored last time out against Premier League whipping boys Leicester for what was his first goal in 21 games, while Zirkzee has just three goals in that same period.
It remains to be seen what money there will be available for Amorim to strengthen the squad, given United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s drastic cost-cutting measures of recent months
But Sky Germany report that a four-man striker shortlist has been drawn up and two Gunners targets feature prominently.
A deal for Benjamin Sesko has twice been explored by Arsenal, in the recent January transfer window and last summer, and the RB Leipzig striker is now a target for United at the end of the season
Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres is another player who is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, including Arsenal, and United have included the former Coventry star on their summer shortlist.
Both strikers are expected to command fees in excess of £60million. Further reports claim both Sesko and Gyokeres have decided to explore moves in the summer
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and Napoli outcast Victor Osimhen complete United’s shortlist.
Ekitite is considered a more favourable target to Osimhen, who is spending the season on loan with Galatasaray after demanding and then failing to secure a permanent Naples exit last summer
