Alaves v Getafe paused following chanting at Mason Greenwood

The first half of Getafe’s 1-0 La Liga loss to Alaves was interrupted due to jeers directed at Mason Greenwood, the team’s goalscorer.

As they prepare for a shared midtable finish in the final stretch, neither team has anything left to play for this season.

With all three points, the hosts moved into 10th and 11th place, respectively, two points clear of Getafe.

But the major talking point of the evening was when referee Jorge Figueroa Vazquez called a timeout on the eighteenth minute of play.

“Greenwood, die” was yelled from a portion of the crowd, and the stadium tannoy advised home fans not to make any remarks against Greenwood.

The chanting subsided, but as the game was played out in its entirety, Getafe coaching staff members objected to certain yells directed at Greenwood.

Getafe has not yet indicated whether they would file a complaint with La Liga, since Alaves might be the subject of an inquiry.

The 22-year-old forward is still the subject of controversy despite the fact that the accusations against him were dropped two years ago after important witnesses withdrew from the case. He was accused of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault with bodily harm.
