Bruno Fernandes has been writing about his move to Manchester United and actually touched on how he almost joined a rival.
Since moving to Old Trafford more than four years ago, Bruno Fernandes has been the team’s best player and is currently wearing the captain’s armband.
Over the previous four years, Magnifico from Portugal has been the only consistent top performer, and he is without a doubt one of the best additions since Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, given that he was on the verge of joining a rival the previous summer, Manchester United was fortunate to acquire him. Bruno has now discussed this in a recent column that he wrote.
Bruno Fernandes admits ‘weird’ feeling he has about Spurs
Bruno was writing a message for the fans on The Players’ Tribune, and in doing so discussed how he felt about his potential move to Spurs which fell apart before he joined United in 2019.
He began by explaining how he reacted upon being told of United’s interest by his agent to which he asked, “Are you joking?”
He then wrote to explain: “I didn’t even reply. I started fighting back tears. But you know the feeling when you are trying to hold it in, so the other person doesn’t realise you’re crying, and you can’t even speak?”
But he added that it was through happiness.
Bruno explained: “The previous summer, there were some rumours about Premier League clubs being interested in me, but the only thing that was concrete was Tottenham. It feels weird to me now, but at the time, I was excited.
“In the end, the clubs couldn’t reach an agreement, and the deal fell apart. It was a complicated emotion, but I was really happy at Sporting. I felt the fans’ love, and it was a fantastic place for me. But it was not my destiny.”
His destiny of course ended up being United and we for one are thankful he ended up at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes’ reaction to joining United says it all
In his article, Bruno explained what he told his wife upon being offered the chance to join United in January 2019.
He wrote: “I feel like I am already living a dream at Sporting. But this is…. It’s more than a dream. It’s Manchester United.”
This reaction says it all about just how perfect Bruno is for United and why he’s making such an excellent captain, leading through his performances.
Bruno quite clearly loves United and his words on how he felt about making the move, really does say a lot about Bruno and why the love is reciprocated by the fans.
