Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s now hearing about Ten Hag’s future at Man Utd

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has had a difficult season as rumors about his future there grow more intense. With two games remaining, United is now ranked eighth in the Premier League rankings after losing badly in the group stage of the Champions League.

In the unlikely event that United decides to break ways with the Dutch manager, a number of managers have been projected to take over. Thomas Frank of Brentford is the most recent connection; according to The Telegraph, the Danish coach is a serious contender and has made an impression on many at Old Trafford.

Frank became an assistant when he first joined Brentford in 2016, and in 2018 he was promoted. Following their victory in the Championship play-off final, he went on to lead the team to promotion in 2021. In the subsequent campaigns, they finished in 13th and 9th place, and even though this season was more disappointing than the last, they managed to escape being drawn into a major relegation struggle.

Romano: Man Utd Links to Frank ‘Too Early’

Despite widespread speculation, it appears no decision has been made with regard to Ten Hag’s future at United. As per Fabrizio Romano in his daily briefing, there is nothing concrete in the Frank links and there won’t be until the club determine whether they want to push on with Ten Hag.

“Still, as I always repeat about Manchester United – no decision has been made about Ten Hag’s position and we have to wait for that in order to understand what they will do with the new manager. There are many links but nothing will be concrete until they decide on Ten Hag.

“I like Frank and he’s done an impressive job at Brentford, but it’s too early at the moment to be talking about him or anyone else as a candidate for United. Let’s see how Ten Hag ends the season, with two more league matches and the FA Cup final still to come.”

United will contest two further Premier League fixtures against Newcastle United and Brighton and can still close the gap on sixth and seventh. Not only that, they are still in with a shout of clinching silverware when they take on Manchester City in this year’s FA Cup final later this month.

Bruno Fernandes to Stay at United

Ten Hag is not the only United employee who has been connected to leaving the team; in recent weeks, speculation over midfielder Bruno Fernandes’ future has gained momentum. Since joining United in 2020, the Portuguese international has established himself as a key member of the squad and is currently serving as captain.

That hasn’t stopped the rumors, though. The Independent claims that Bayern Munich was one among the teams considering a bid for the 29-year-old. After hearing about this, David Ornstein of The Athletic dispels any rumors that the player is about to depart. The writer reported “crunch talks” between the player’s camp and the team, during which everyone seemed to be in agreement that the player would stay at Old Trafford.
