From Spain – Man United re-sign former defender less than a year after letting him go

The Spaniard spent the second half of the season at Brentford after having his loan period terminated in January.

The former Real Madrid prospect still has a year left on his Tottenham deal, but according to AS, he is expected to quit the team permanently this summer.

His preference is to remain in the Premier League, however, with the report stating both Man Utd and West Ham United are interested in signing the 27-year-old this summer.

West Ham’s new manager Julen Lopetegui has previously coached Regulion during the left-back’s loan spell at Sevilla during the 2019-20 season, establishing himself as a regular in the side that won the Europa League that season. Juventus are also thought to be interested in his services.

Reguilon made 12 appearances for United, seven of those starts, before his loan spell was terminated in January.

United’s medical staff were, at the time, under the impression both Shaw and Malacia would be fit for the second-half of the campaign, prompting the club’s decision to end the loan early.

Malacia did not feature once last season due to a knee injury suffered last year and was only spotted back in training at the end of the season.

Shaw, who missed three months of action while Reguilon was at the club, returned to action towards the end of the year but managed just five appearances in 2024 before being sidelined again with a hamstring injury.
