Gary Neville reaction to Bruno Fernandes goal for Manchester United vs Liverpool says it all

Footage of Gary Neville’s reaction to Bruno Fernandes’ long-range equaliser against Liverpool in Sunday’s 2-2 draw has been released by Sky Sports.

United captain Fernandes capitalised on a mistake from Jarrel Quansah to ping the ball over high-positioned Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to level the game for the struggling hosts five minutes after half-time.

After being on the back foot for the entirety of the first half, United managed to edge ahead on 67 minutes thanks to a sublime Kobbie Mainoo strike, his first senior goal at Old Trafford. Liverpool managed to retrieve a result thanks to Mohamed Salah’s penalty – following Luis Diaz’s 23rd-minute goal – but it was United who went away feeling as though they had the last laugh.

Neville had a good chuckle while on commentary for Sky Sports when Fernandes’ long-range goal found the net. Reacting straight away to the moment, he remarked “oh my goodness”, before going into further analysis with pundit Jamie Carragher looking crestfallen beside him.

He said: “Manchester United – shocked, number one. Goal number one. A difficult moment for the young centre-back (Quansah) under no pressure. I’ve just said it’s been such an easy game for Liverpool but then this happens. Let the chaos begin!”

Carragher then added: “Well, the only way Manchester United were going to get back into this game was if Liverpool were sloppy and that’s exactly what just happened. It’s an outrageous finish from Bruno Fernandes, absolute world class quality.

“But Liverpool again, like the FA Cup game, have only got themselves to blame for finding themselves 1-1 in the 51st-minute when they’ve completely dominated this game.”
