‘He wasn’t ready’… Ten Hag makes admission over one Manchester United player, he picked him anyway

Erik ten Hag has been speaking out after Manchester United’s defeat away at Crystal Palace.

Erik ten Hag oversaw another terrible loss, this time for Manchester United, at Crystal Palace, where they lost 4-0. The 7-0 loss at Liverpool will be hard to top.

At least the manager will be able to duck behind the suspiciously long list of injuries that have been plaguing his club this time.

Casemiro and Jonny Evans had to line up as a makeshift defensive tandem for United.

Erik ten Hag on Jonny Evans

Since Jonny Evans started exercising again last week, Manchester United has been forced to rush back the players that do return because of the squad’s extreme thinness.

Following Harry Maguire’s injury a few days prior to kickoff, 36-year-old Evans was given more of a role.

After the 4-0 defeat, Erik ten Hag acknowledged to the club’s media that Evans was not prepared. Despite his desperation, he chose him.

He said: “Huge respect for Jonny that he stepped in [for Harry Maguire], but he wasn’t ready to go into the game.

“He only had two days’ training, so that is one example. But he played for 90 minutes and it was a real reward that he did this.

“But of course he can’t play to the levels what he can normally do.”

Evans and Casemiro torn apart

It sounds terrible to pick an unfit Evans and an out-of-position Casemiro, but it went far worse than that.

Palace’s explosive onslaught tore apart both players, making them look foolish for the Eagles’ first two goals.

United was out after halftime, down 2-0. The second half showed not the slightest sign of a comeback, and Palace added two more goals before the match was over.

Louis Jackson, a teenager who has won an FA Youth Cup match at Selhurst Park, may have been United’s younger choice.

Jackson might start this weekend for United if they sustain additional injuries or if they believe it’s best not to play Evans and Casemiro together again.
