INEOS will look at “genius” manager for Man Utd if Ten Hag leaves, Bruno will love him – opinion

After a poor second season in charge, it is unclear if Erik ten Hag will still be the Manchester United manager for the upcoming campaign.

With a goal differential of -1, the Red Devils’ poorest league record in more than 30 years, they finished eighth in the Premier League.

Even though beating Manchester City this weekend in the FA Cup might improve his chances, it’s possible that even it won’t be enough to save the Dutchman.

In light of this, Ten Hag may have a successor, and that person may also be able to bring out the best in Bruno Fernandes.

Man Utd’s search for a new boss

If INEOS and Co. choose to break up with Ten Hag, Man United may be prepared to move for Mauricio Pochettino, according to a TEAMtalk report.

After a mutual agreement, the Argentine unexpectedly left Chelsea on Tuesday, but he might return to management straight immediately.

Given that the manager was “hugely popular among the players,” it appears that the club-manager relationship had a major role in his leaving.

United have previously been interested in making the former Tottenham Hotspur boss their manager, but what sort of impact would he have on the side if he were to join?

Pochettino’s potential impact on Bruno Fernandes

While it’s true that Chelsea and United have underachieved this season in every aspect, it’s evident that the Blues finished the season far stronger.

With 15 points from their last five games, Pochettino’s team was able to pass the Manchester United team and finish in sixth place, three points ahead of the Red Devils in eighth.

As you can see by the table, Chelsea were a much more complete team this season than United, scoring far more often and playing a much more attacking style of play.

This is the type of football that the United faithful have missed this season: a possession-based approach that enables more control and dominance, which will massively benefit Fernandes in particular.

With 14 more big chances created than the second most in the squad, the Portuguese maestro is the driving force behind everything that goes right for United offensively.

Pochettino has shown he can elevate attacking players in particular, so the attacking midfielder must be salivating at the thought of working under him.

Cole Palmer’s play this season serves as a prime illustration. Under the Argentine’s tutelage, the number 20 has been spectacular, tallying 22 goals and dishing out 11 assists in 29 appearances.

Since the United captain has tallied 10 goals and eight assists so far this season in the league, it is reasonable to assume that he can produce at that level.

Pochettino excels at giving his players the freedom to express themselves; this is especially evident in his 4-2-3-1 formation. Consider the heights to which Dele Alli was able to ascend under Pochettino.

In that regard, he is undoubtedly the “genius” that writer Alex Keble referred to him, whether it is by allowing midfielders greater positional freedom when in possession of the ball or allowing them to take chances with it.

For the next few years, the Old Trafford rebuild has to be based around the number eight, as he’s the heartbeat of the team and by far United’s best player, as shown by the fact he ranks first in the squad for so many statistics, including key passes, goals, assists, and shots on target.

As displayed since his arrival, Fernandes is the definition of a player who could win a game on his own, an individual who can turn nothing into something, and Pochettino’s guidance will without doubt help him flourish even more than he already does.
