Man united boss tells Former Captain Harry Maguire ONE thing He must do now to claim His captain badge back from Bruno Fernandez after the EURO’s

The much-maligned centre-back started the season on the bench for Manchester United, but injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane meant Maguire was given a chance to impress his manager. He has done so emphatically, but many have pondered on how and what is different this term from the last.

Maguire made just eight league starts last season. Everyone could see that he was no longer in the top two in the center-back pecking order. When he was deprived of the club captaincy in the summer, the England star appeared to be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Maguire, on the other hand, has supervised quite the turnaround and is presently keeping Varane out of the lineup. It’s unclear what has caused the shift, but Ten Hag’s words following last month’s win against Sheffield United were particularly telling, implying the centre-back has a better knowledge of what is expected of him.

“I have to say Harry is playing like we want him to play,” he went on to remark. “Out of possession, very proactive, dominating his opponent, stepping in when necessary, reading the game, good covering, but also very proactive in possession, stepping in, delivering good passes, switching.” I’m pleased with his performance.”

Maguire’s attitude since being stripped of the armband has also raised his stock in Ten Hag’s eyes. It was widely assumed that Bruno Fernandes taking over as captain would only tarnish the defender’s United legacy further.

In contrast, the Three Lions regular has maintained his senior position within the group and has been one of many United players to encourage Jadon Sancho to settle his rivalry with Ten Hag.
