Man United ‘prepare’ £51m transfer bid as Aston Villa threat emerges

Teun Koopeminers, an Atalanta midfielder, is reportedly willing to cost Manchester United £51 million to acquire.

The Dutchman, who previously worked under new head coach Arne Slot, has been linked to a Premier League move in recent weeks, most notably Liverpool. This summer, United may lose a few midfield players, therefore they would need to add more.

The only midfield player spared from a sale is Kobbie Mainoo, as Donny van de Beek is expected to depart following his unsuccessful loan stint at Frankfurt in the second half of the season, and Casemiro is the clear favourite to go. With one year remaining on his contract, Christian Eriksen, 32, may also go because Sir Jim Ratcliffe appears to be merciless in his summer transfer operations.

In addition to Liverpool purportedly vying for Koopmeiners’ signing, United is also reportedly up against Juventus.

But according to Calciomercato, United is prepared to make a bold move and put up a bid of about £51 million (€60 million) for the midfielder, who is expected to represent the Netherlands in the European Championships this summer.

He could be playing in the event, which would slow down the conversation. Aston Villa is reportedly prepared to compete with United for the signing of OGC Nice center-half Jean-Clair Todibo, according to L’Equipe.

Jarrad Branthwaite’s transfer fee has been clarified, and United plans to sign two new centre backs this summer.

The Everton defender and Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba are on the club’s radar, while Todibo has been frequently linked due to his connection with Ratcliffe, who has owned Nice through Ineos since 2019. Todibo had a trial with United over a decade ago.

Villa are expected to use the carrot of Champions League football to beat Europa League participants United to Todibo, who was evasive when asked about his future last month. He said: “Honestly I don’t want to talk about [my future] because of my respect for the fans here and the club also.

“But we had a little discussion, for sure. My ambition is to play in the best competitions in the world and try to be the best version of me.”
