Man United set to complete first transfer as medical booked and £36m fee agreed

Joshua Zirkzee will fly into Manchester on Thursday evening ahead of a medical tomorrow after United agreed a deal with Bologna.

The 23-year-old is set to become the first signing of the summer after he was granted permission to travel to Manchester after the end of the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign on Wednesday night, when they were beaten 2-1 by England in the semi-finals.

United had made the signing of a forward a priority this summer, with Anthony Martial leaving the club at the end of his contract and Rasmus Hojlund the only recognised senior striker in the squad.

Zirkzee joined Bayern Munich’s youth programme from Feyenoord in 2017 and scored four goals in 17 first-team appearances in Bavaria. He had loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht, with a successful season in Belgium in 2021/22 earning him a switch to Bologna.
