Man United submit offer to sign mega-talented 19-year-old, Reds pushing ahead to acquire classy midfielder: report

Man United have made an offer to sign mega-talented midfielder, Joao Neves.

This summer, Manchester United needs more players in almost every position on the pitch. The squad lacks depth in a few critical spots, which INEOS needs to rectify.

Joao Neves is one of the names that has been rather strongly associated with a move to Old Trafford in the past. The young player has had another fantastic season with SL Benfica in Portugal; perhaps it’s time to move up to the major leagues.

The assertion is made in Sport’s print edition on Tuesday, according to Sport Witness. They claim that United has made a serious offer to sign the incredibly gifted 19-year-old.

But hold on, as Benfica has already rejected that £51 million deal. Maybe the Red Devils were just trying things out with an introductory deal.

Neves has a massive release clause worth little over £100 million, which is most likely why the Portuguese side quickly blocked the move.

Positively, even though it will cost them a lot of money, the Reds appear to be moving forward with their plans to sign the elegant midfield player.

There seems to be a general acceptance that Benfica would be willing to lower that fee, though you’d still assume it’d cost at least £80m to prise the midfielder away from Portugal this summer. Do United have that sort of cash to spend on one player? I’m not convinced.

If, somehow, the club can raise that sort of money, then this would be a truly unreal piece of business.
