Man Utd fans have just seen Ten Hag signing in his best role for first time, he’s devastating

Manchester United fans knew what was needed in the transfer market last summer. A striker.

Saying that Manchester United required two strikers was not avaricious. It was merely a useful point to raise.

In 2022, Ralf Rangnick issued a warning, saying that United required two strikers. The club signed just one player in two summer windows, Rasmus Hojlund.

And you have to admit that Rasmus Hojlund has performed admirably overall. As we noted very early in the season, he’s simply been cast in the wrong position.

Rasmus Hojlund was supposed to be the impact player

Last summer, Erik ten Hag truly wanted Manchester United to do more, but the club did not have the funds to do so.

Not after Mason Mount was decided to be a £55 million waste. Rasmus Hojlund and Harry Kane were both desirable additions for United.

However, there were issues. The £64 million agreement that was ultimately reached for Hojlund exceeded the initial £40 million United intended to spend.

United had already made the decision to back out of the Kane deal by this moment because they thought Daniel Levy of Tottenham would demand a steep price to tip a transaction that would cost more than £100 million. After the decision to buy Andre Onana for £43 million and release David de Gea, this was no longer feasible.

To make a long tale short, Rasmus Hojlund was the only striker that United could find. In order to relieve some of the strain on the Dane, United may have still signed a seasoned veteran.

Among the relatively inexpensive names discussed was Mehdi Taremi. It was decided to put faith in Anthony Martial for this position. Strangely enough. The striker, who is prone to injuries, has only made five starts in the Premier League this season and missed the entire preseason.

Manchester United is now dependent on Hojlund as a result. It has occasionally appeared as though the strain was getting to him and hurting him. In addition to his 25 Premier League starts, he has also started 10 cup games.

Hojlund shows his quality from the bench, like it should have been

Rasmus Hojlund has started the last two games on the bench. Not even a striker has been a part of Manchester United. It’s not a snub, despite the way it sounds.

Ahead of the FA Cup Final, Erik ten Hag is attempting to shield Hojlund because he cannot afford for the Dane to get an injury.

In both games, Hojlund entered off the bench and scored a goal at Brighton and what turned out to be the game-winning goal at Newcastle. This has been a great way to employ him. In brief bursts, he has been absolutely deadly, running at defenders and exploiting their weariness as the game wears on.

At this point in his career, that is how Hojlund should have been used by United all along. Due to his exceptional speed, the Dane is most effective while facing worn-out opponents as opposed to new ones.

He has found it easier to find opportunities as an impact substitute, and he has seized them. Although Hojlund’s season total of 16 goals and counting is impressive, he could have accomplished more if he had spent the entire campaign as a backup striker behind a front man with more experience.

If United had started the game with Kane leading the line and Hojlund coming on late, their assault would have been far more formidable and the story around the Dane would have been very different.

There would have been less pressure, and he would have been less exposed during the difficult moments.

Next step for Hojlund is unclear

In addition to Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United will add another striker this summer. It’s unclear who the target is yet.

Will Hojlund be able to play behind an experienced striker like Viktor Gyokeres or Ivan Toney? Alternatively, a younger player such as Benjamin Sesko could step up to fill Hojlund’s void.

There will be a sharing of responsibilities in one form or another. It’s unjust that Hojlund has had to shoulder all of this this season. Hojlund has performed better over the past two games because he has been free to enter the game and do his thing without any expectations.
