Man Utd may be using Michael Olise as a smokescreen for another £60m signing

Michael Olise, a winger for Crystal Palace, has been heavily linked to Manchester United this summer. It is reported that INEOS has agreed to make the Frenchman a top target.

But it’s possible that the Red Devils are genuinely considering a deal for his teammate and are just using Olise as a smokescreen in the transfer market.

Alejandro Garnacho was Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-winger last season, so he has a wealth of options at his disposal.

The role can also be filled by Antony, Amad Diallo, Jadon Sancho, and Facundo Pellistri, but Olise is regarded as a top contender.

Chelsea is also a contender and has already defeated United in one transfer this summer when they acquired Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo for nothing.

However, as the transfer season draws nearer, new reports suggest that the M16 giants’ attention may be diverted elsewhere within the Palace attack.

The Sun claims that United is getting ready to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for Eberechi Eze’s signature.

INEOS is eager to name him a star arrival at the outset of their project at Old Trafford after an outstanding season that earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2024 European Championship.

Although Olise would probably cost United £60 million, Eze is still attainable if he is persuaded to make the transfer because he has a release clause worth the same amount.

Eze only made 27 appearances due to injuries last season, but he scored 11 goals and added four assists, which led to connections with Premier League winners Manchester City.

With just 57 goals scored, United’s anaemic offence finished the season with a -1 goal differential—tied for the lowest total among top-half teams.

It is therefore not surprising that they are searching for additional offensive reinforcements in addition to a striker to take Anthony Martial’s spot and challenge Rasmus Hojlund.

But even if City decides not to pursue Eze, Spurs might be hard to beat in the chase for his signature.

According to the article, people close to Eze were seen at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for games against Burnley and Palace earlier this year in the hospitality suite of his agency.

Strong ties exist between CAA Base and the Spurs. Among their clientele are James Maddison, Son Heung-min, and head coach Ange Postecoglou.

After a successful debut season under Postecoglou, Tottenham will join United as the Premier League’s two representatives in the Europa League the following season.

However, it’s unclear if before making a move, one or both clubs will need to raise money through player sales.
