Man Utd star informs club chiefs he ‘will leave’ as Erik ten Hag gamble backfires

If Erik ten Hag is still in charge at Old Trafford this summer, he may lose two of his young Manchester United players. The club’s 2023–24 campaign was uneven, but one bright spot was the rise of young talent, as players like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo rose to prominence under the Dutch coach.

After progressing through the under-21 ranks, Facundo Pelistri and Omari Forson were also formerly hailed as long-term potential at United.

This season, the Dutchman gave Winger Forson his Premier League debut. However, it now appears that Forson has informed the team that he wishes to depart to play regular first team football somewhere else.

That’s despite the England age-grade international being praised by Ten Hag following his first league start against Fulham, one of his seven club appearances this season. “He had some good actions,” said his manager afterwards.

However, top HITC claims that Forson’s agents have now informed the team that the 19-year-old will go when his contract expires next month. All sides started talking about a new long-term contract for the star last summer, but nothing came to fruition.

Numerous English and foreign teams have expressed interest in him, including Monaco, RB Leipzig, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace. Ten Hag may now incur consequences for giving the player precedence over Pellistri, who has been on loan at Granada since January.

It appears that the 54-year-old chose to promote Forson over the Uruguayan, who will now sign a permanent contract with the Spanish team this summer. Now, the former Ajax manager might wind up spoiling that call, which could effectively cost the team two promising young players.

Pellistri, 22, moved temporarily to Alaves before joining United four years ago. This is his third loan spell. The winger has only made 24 appearances for the main team, most of which have been as a substitute.

However, during the last five months in La Liga, he has shown promise. In February, he scored in an exciting 3-3 tie with Barcelona. Additionally, he has played frequently for Uruguay at the international level, earning 19 caps since making his debut in January 2022. In the event that the two leave, United’s intended transfer activity may change.

The club must make a crucial decision about winger Jadon Sancho after his loan at Borussia Dortmund ended. Given that two possible replacements may be departing, there is a greater likelihood that Sancho will be welcomed back into the team.
