Man Utd transfer news: Erik ten Hag holds secret talks with target as new signing confirmed

Manchester United are expected to step up their efforts in the transfer market after a big week at Old Trafford.

The club formally confirmed that Erik ten Hag would continue in his post as manager until 2026 after triggering an option in the Dutchman’s contract just days after announcing that Dan Ashworth had officially become their new sporting director following a breakthrough in talks with Newcastle.

United are understood to be in the market for both a striker and a central defender this summer and a host of names have already been linked with the Red Devils, including Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt.

And with the new Premier League season just over a month away, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Manchester United transfer news…

Ten Hag holds De Ligt talks

Erik ten Hag has personally stepped in to charm Matthijs de Ligt in talks over a potential move to Manchester United.

The Bayern Munich defender, 24, played under the Dutchman at Ajax and has emerged as a target for the Red Devils in recent weeks.

Mirror Football has outlined that while Bayern would like to keep him, De Ligt determined to force the move through after Euro 2024 after holding talks with Ten Hag, who has outlined his plans for the club to the centre-back.
