Man Utd’s newest recruit runs 100m sprint in just 11.1 seconds and the footage is insane

Manchester United’s newest recruit has set a new personal best time of 11.1 seconds in a recent 100m race.

Silva Mexes, who is the son of former West Brom, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest striker Robert Earnshaw, became the first signing of the INEOS era on May 30.

After the deal was made official, Earnshaw said it was a “really really special” moment, adding: “I am so so proud. He has worked hard and it’s such a blessing to see him find his passion and make this journey.”

Mexes, a Wales under-14 international, showcased his athleticism and technical ability throughout his previous academy spell at Ipswich Town.

And earlier this week, the highly-rated forward displayed a staggering turn of speed during a 100m sprint. Footage of the race soon emerged, with Mexes recording a personal best time of 11.1 seconds.

Shortly after being handed the number seven shirt, Mexes opened up on his latest move.

“Very proud moment for me and my family to announce my signing for Manchester United,” he said. “Thank you for everyone who has helped me on my journey so far. The work starts now.”

United are aiming to upgrade their academy set-up under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group.

Earlier this year, United moved to hire Ipswich Town’s head of recruitment Sam Williams for a role within their academy.

Williams, who previously worked at United as their academy scout and first-team recruitment analyst between 2017 and 2022, has taken the role of lead scout.

He is one of several recent changes to that department since the arrival of Ratcliffe in February.
