Manchester United expected to improve on £50m offer to try

Manchester United is anticipated to raise their bid of £50 million or €60 million in an attempt to snag emerging Benfica star João Neves this summer.

Manchester United is one of the teams reportedly pushing to recruit Neves, according to A Bola. Manchester United is trying to have an early advantage over any prospective rivals, and a report from earlier this week suggested that they have already placed a bid for the highly regarded young player.

Bola supports this by saying that Benfica has already received two proposals totaling €60 million and is anticipating more. For the time being, they are holding out hope that they can sell him for the €120 million that his current contract’s release clause is worth.

Benfica is aware that pressure will mount in the upcoming months as two English teams have already stated their intent to pay €60 million for him.

The most interested party is Manchester United, but Arsenal has also been mentioned as a suitor—albeit through English publications.

It is anticipated that they will resume their pursuit of the midfield player shortly, and although they are not likely to activate the €120 million option, offers will undoubtedly come in.

Benfica had intended to sign a new contract that included a pay raise and an additional €150 million clause, but that deal was never finalised.

Although negotiations are still ongoing and there is always hope, it appears doubtful that a deal of that kind would be completed.

The Portuguese club need to make a big sale, something Rui Costa has admitted to, but they had planned for it to be defender António Silva. The market has not developed around him, though, and now the pressure is increasing on Neves.

Manchester United could use that to their advantage to drive a deal that suits them, with a second improved bid already anticipated at some point.
