Manchester United injury latest as Erik ten Hag faces defensive headache ahead of Liverpool test

Manchester United are down to the bare bones in terms of defensive options as a crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool looms.

The Red Devils have twice thrown away points from winning positions in the past week after first being pegged back late on against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday. What followed was a seven-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge with former Man City man Cole Palmer netting two late goals to sink United once more.

In defence, Harry Maguire and Willy Kambwala appear to be the only fit central defenders at the club, with Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans both withdrawn at Stamford Bridge. Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof both sustained setbacks in the 1-1 draw with the Bees in midweek and are set to be out of action for a month.
